Via Salaria

  • The Via Salaria, meaning ‘Salt Road’, brought salt from the Adriatic to Rome.

Description

  • It ran 150 miles (242km) from Castrum Truentium (Porto d’Ascoli) on the Adriatic to the Gate in the Aurelian Walls of Rome known as the Porta Salaria, and then through the Porta Collina of the Servian Wall.
  • The Strada Statale 4 Via Salaria is the modern road that uses the same route.
