  • The Monument is located between Piazza Venezia and the Capitoline Hill.

Description

  • It was built as a modern Roman Forum style Monument to celebrate the Risorgimento or Unification of Italy in 1861.
  • The location was designed to unite the centre of Ancient Rome with centre of modern Rome.
  • It holds the Altar of the Fatherland bearing a statue of the Goddess of Rome, under which lies the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, which is permanently guarded by two soldiers.
