Volga

  • The Volga is a river in Russia with a length of 2,194 miles (3,531km), making it the longest river in Europe.
  • It rises in the Valdai Hills northwest of Moscow, and empties into the Volga Delta in the Caspian Sea.

Volga-Don Canal

  • The Volga is connected to the Black Sea by the 63 mile (101km) long Volga-Don Canal.
  • Oil tankers from the Caspian Sea can navigate the Volga and enter the canal, after which they descend the Don into the Black Sea and beyond.
