Black Sea

  • The Black Sea, also known as the Euxine Sea, is an inland sea lying north of Turkey which is also bordered by Bulgaria, Roumania, Ukraine, Russia and Georgia.
  • It is connected to the Mediterranean by the Sea of Marmara and two Turkish Straits, the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles.

  • The Black Sea was described by Arrian in the Periplus of the Euxine Sea (Black Sea).

Kingdom of Pontus

  • Between 281 to 63 BCE the Kingdom of Pontus was an independent Kingdom which controlled the southern coast of the Black Sea.

Chersonesus Taurica

  • The Romans controlled the Black Sea with this Client Kingdom on the Crimean Peninsular.
