Chester-le-Street

  • Chester-Le-Street is a town located on the River Wear, 8 miles (13km) south of Newcastle, in County Durham.
  • It was founded as the Roman fort of Conganis which guarded the River crossing. The Fort Remains now lie under the town centre and are not visible.

History

  • The Fort was the home of the Auxiliary Unit known as the Ala Secundae Asturum Antoniniana.
