Divide et Impera

Description

  • From the Latin: ‘Divide et impera’ and ‘Divide ut regnes’.
  • The phrase is attributed to Julius Caesar, who practised this technique to create and control the Roman Empire.
  • The phrase originally came from the Greek King Philip II of Macedon (382-336 BCE), who by this method, broke the power of the Greek City States to oppose him.
