Bourne Hall Museum, Ewell
  • Ewell is a town on the source of the river Hogsmill, a tributary of the river Thames. It is located 1.5 miles (3km) northeast of Epsom, in the County of Surrey.
  • It is the probable site of a Roman Posting Station known as a Statio on Stane Street.

    • The Bourne Hall Library and Events Venue in Spring Street, Ewell, known locally as ‘The Flying Saucer’ because of its circular shape, has a museum located on the first floor.
    • The museum contains various collections, including a selection of various Roman artefacts found locally.

Roman Roads

  • Stane Street
    • London-Ewell-Epsom-Chichester.
      • There are other probable Posting Station Sites (Mansiones) on Stane Street at Merton Priory and Dorking. The known Posting Stations were at Alfoldean and Hardham.
