Grand Trunk Road

  • The Grand Trunk Road ran for 1,600 miles (2,600km), from Chittagong on the mouth of the Ganges in Bangladesh to Kabul in Afghanistan.
  • Built during the Mauryan Empire in India (3rd century BCE), It is still in use today and is known by the same name.

Megasthenes

  • It was mentioned by Megasthenes, (350-290 BCE), a Greek Envoy to the Mauryan Court, who described a whole organisation dedicated to its maintenance.
