- Haus Burgel is a Museum containing the Finds of a Roman Fort located 12 miles (20km) from Neuss in Germany.
- It formed part of the Limes Germanicus Rhine Frontier System.
History
- The Fort is located on the East bank of the Rhine.
- The Fort appears to date from the time of Constantine I (306-337 CE) and lasted until the collapse of 406 CE.
- The Fort had twelve towers, four courner towers and eight round towers.
- It was a square of 210 feet (64m) x 210 feet (64m) with walls having a thickness of 8 feet (2.3m), and was surrounded by a double ditch.
- 139 coins were excavated dating to Constantine I. A later gold coin was found of Honorius (393-423 CE), indicating the Fort continued until at least 406 CE.
