- The Pacific Ocean extends from the Arctic Ocean to the Southern Ocean and is enclosed by the continents of the Americas in the east and of Asia and Oceania in the west.
- It is the largest and deepest of the Earth’s Oceans and is larger than the all the Earth’s land mass joined together.
Description
- The Pacific is divided by the Equator into the Northern Pacific Ocean and the Southern Pacific Ocean.
- It includes marginal seas such as the South China Sea, East China Sea, Sea of Japan and the Philipine Sea, amongst others.
- Of the 25,000 islands in the Pacific, there are three main groups of islands. Polynesia, Melanesia and Micronesia. Polynesia stretches from Hawaii to New Zealand.
