Staines-upon-Thames

Staines Bridge
  • Staines-upon-Thames is a town located on the river Thames in Surrey, 3 miles (5km) south of Heathrow Airport, in the South East Region of England. There has been a road bridge at Staines since Roman times.
  • The Roman name was Ad Pontes or Pontibus, meaning ‘at the bridges’, where the Portway crossed the Thames. The exact location of the Roman bridge or bridges is disputed, but thought to be nearby.
