- Vagharshapat is the fouth largest city in Armenia and is the seat of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
- It was the capital of ancient Armenia between 120-330 CE, built by the Arsacid King Vagharsh I.
Ancient Sites
- Etchmiadzin Cathedral (301-303 CE)
- This is thought to be the oldest cathedral in the world and was built by Armenia’s Patron Saint, Gregory the Illuminator.
- It is the Mother Church of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
Museums
- Etchmiadzin Historical and Ethnographical Museum
- Located in the Monastic Complex of the Mother See, a complex of buildings and museums located around the Etchmiadzin Cathedral and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- The museum holds Artefacts relating to the Armenian Church dating back to the 4th century CE.
