- Neoclassicism was a Western cultural movement that was inspired by a revival of interest in the visual art, architecture, theatre, music, literature and culture of Classical Antiquity (800 BCE-600 CE).
Description
- The Period dates approximately from c.1750-c.1850 CE. It was strongly influenced by the German art historian and archeologist, Johann Joachim Winckelmann when he published ‘The History of Art in Antiquity’, describing the history of Greek Art and its goal of creating Beauty.
- This strongly influenced the members of the nobility in Northern Europe who embarked on the ‘Grand Tour’ and visited the Sites and artworks of Classical Antiquity and the Renaissance.
